The Government has approved an investment of 1.006 billion euros for the conservation of the State Road Network, which will improve 3,670 kilometers.

The Council of Ministers has greenlit an investment of 1.006 billion euros for the maintenance of the State Road Network. This operation will enable the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender six contracts, divided into 29 lots, with planned actions in 20 provinces across ten autonomous communities.
The contracts will focus on the upkeep of nearly 3,670 kilometers of state roads, of which 2,261 kilometers are motorways. The primary objective is to ensure optimal conditions for circulation, traffic flow, and safety on a network considered key for daily mobility, goods transport, and inter-territorial connectivity.
The initial duration of the contracts will be three years, with the possibility of a two-year extension and an additional nine-month period. This means the ministry led by Óscar Puente will have this need covered for a maximum execution period of five years and nine months.
"We reaffirm our commitment to the network that supports half of the total traffic and 65% of heavy goods traffic. Ensuring mobility and road safety is a priority," stated Puente in a social media video.
The minister estimated the maintenance investment deficit at 5.6 billion euros and assured that the Executive is reversing this trend with significant budgetary effort. He highlighted that over seven years, more than 10.5 billion euros have been invested, more than doubling the annual investment from 918 million in 2018 to the 1.9 billion projected for 2025.
Catalonia will receive the largest share, with 216.32 million euros for 562 kilometers, mainly on the AP-7, AP-2, and B-30. Castilla y León will follow with 188.4 million for 760 kilometers, including routes like the A-1 and A-66. Castilla-La Mancha will receive 183.9 million for 441.79 kilometers across various motorways and conventional roads.
Aragon will receive 148.68 million for over 581 kilometers in the province of Zaragoza, affecting the AP-68 and A-2. The Valencian Community will receive 83.78 million for the maintenance of 354 kilometers in Alicante and Castellón, including actions on the A-31 and N-340.
The Community of Madrid will have 60.76 million for 60.25 kilometers, primarily on the A-4 and A-2. Other benefiting communities include La Rioja (45.36 million), Asturias (32.35 million), and Galicia (26.58 million).
Finally, Andalusia will receive 20.42 million for 146 kilometers in the province of Huelva, with actions on the A-49 and N-435, including the repair of a drainage structure.
