The political group has criticized the inconsistency of the majority parties, PP and PSOE, who have shown contradictory positions regarding the project. While in Almassora they have expressed their rejection due to environmental concerns, in Castelló they have vetoed the proposal put forward by Compromís.
According to Compromís, the proposed plant would produce ammonia using combined cycle power plants based on gas combustion, which questions the project's sustainable nature. Furthermore, they have emphasized that ammonia is a highly flammable substance, and its production, storage, and transport in an already saturated industrial area would increase dangers for the population.
“"The plant does not bring benefits to the city and only leaves pollution while the ammonia is sent to other countries to decarbonize their industry."
The coalition has also raised concerns about the high energy and water consumption the installation would require, without this translating into a real benefit for the local economy. They have argued that the debate over this plant is fundamental for Castelló's development model, choosing between accepting environmental burdens or opting for a model that generates value and opportunities.
For all these reasons, Compromís will once again urge the Castelló City Council to adhere to the manifesto rejecting the plant and to adopt a clear stance in defense of health, territory, and a more sustainable economic model for the city.
