Veolia, the company responsible for water cycle management in Benidorm, operates the ETAP and EDAR, essential facilities for ensuring the supply of potable water and its subsequent purification.

The Drinking Water Treatment Plant (ETAP) and the Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) are essential pillars for the citizens of Benidorm and for maintaining this important tourist destination. These infrastructures ensure that water reaches the tap in optimal conditions and that, once used, it returns to the environment without causing harm.

"In a territory where pressure on water resources is structural and permanent, ensuring that water reaches the tap in perfect sanitary conditions and that, once used, it returns to the environment without harming it is not an option, it is an obligation."

The Marina Baixa, one of the Valencian regions with the highest water stress, experiences a highly seasonal water demand, with consumption peaks during the summer months. The ETAP is responsible for ensuring that water is suitable for human consumption at all times, adapting its treatment processes to the quality and characteristics of the water, which can come from the Guadalest reservoir, the Amadorio reservoir, or the Canal Bajo del Algar.
For its part, Benidorm's EDAR treats urban wastewater to return it to the natural environment without compromising the ecological balance. Currently, 35% of the water reaching the treatment plant is reused, mainly for agricultural irrigation. Furthermore, Benidorm is developing a Regenerated Water Master Plan for urban uses, with the aim of utilizing an additional 2 Hm³, which strengthens the resilience of the region's water system during periods of drought.

"A treatment plant consumes a significant amount of energy, and that is something we cannot ignore. That is why we work to ensure that the facility itself generates part of that energy from treatment by-products. The goal is clear: for the plant to become increasingly self-sufficient and for its environmental footprint to be as small as possible."

The joint management of the ETAP and EDAR by Veolia is part of an integral cycle that seeks to offer an essential quality service, contribute to the environmental sustainability of the region, and support the economic and tourist development of Benidorm.
