La Vila Joiosa has hosted the premiere of the short film-documentary Kiboko, which reconstructs the history of the eponymous bar from the 80s, filling the Teatre Auditori.

The Teatre Auditori of La Vila Joiosa registered a complete sell-out this Saturday for the official premiere of Kiboko, a short film-documentary narrating the history of the bar that was a symbol and refuge of freedom in the 80s. The screening was met with a long ovation, according to municipal sources.
Co-produced by JUNO Media and Arca Films, and directed by Noelia Fluxá and Julie-Estel Soard with funding from the Ayuntamiento de la Vila Joiosa, Kiboko was more than just a venue. It became a meeting point for a generation that experienced fashion, music, and personal freedom without prejudice, far from the spotlight of 'La Movida'.
The event was attended by the mayor, Marcos Zaragoza, members of the corporation, the technical team, actors, and residents who were part of that era. Zaragoza highlighted that Pub Kiboko "is a place that remains in the memory of all the people of La Vila and marked a before and after in society", adding that "it was a place where we all learned about freedom and about building a more tolerant society".
The film merges real testimonies with recreated fictional scenes, featuring actress Teresa Grau as Ana, a chronicler investigating the venue's legacy. The production was supported by a successful crowdfunding campaign with 146 participants.
The Kiboko pub, operational between 1983 and 1996 on the Avenida del Puerto, is considered a pioneer of the modern pub concept in La Vila Joiosa. It was the epicenter of nightlife and cultural life, giving rise to the so-called 'movida vilera' and driving the opening of numerous venues.
