The Finestrat City Council has approved its first Local Diversity Plan, a strategic tool to analyze the diversity situation in the municipality and design inclusion and coexistence actions.

Driven by the Department of Equality, this plan allows for understanding the needs, resources, challenges, and opportunities in diversity matters, establishing a solid foundation for future actions. The Councillor for Equality highlighted that the council is a pioneer in approving this document, which offers a snapshot of the current situation in Finestrat.

"We are a pioneering City Council because we have already approved our First Local Diversity Plan. It is a strategic tool that provides us with a radiography of the current diversity situation in Finestrat. This diagnostic phase is key to taking action and designing the most appropriate interventions to respond to the needs detected in this initial diagnosis. Ultimately, it is about putting resources and services on the table to strengthen social cohesion and respect for the rights of all people."

The plan covers the entire resident population, with special attention to those groups who may be in situations of greater vulnerability or at risk of discrimination due to origin, age, sexual or gender identity, functional diversity, or socioeconomic status. Among the transversal actions listed to promote inclusion and accessibility are municipal Spanish and Valencian language courses for residents of other nationalities, workshops to overcome the digital divide for older people, and intergenerational workshops.
Additionally, co-education sessions are included to foster values such as tolerance and respect from an early age, the creation of safe spaces at public events with Violet Points, and the Health Asset Map. Specific events such as the International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day every June 28 are also highlighted.
This Local Diversity Plan was approved in the last ordinary plenary session and will be in force until 2029. It is conceived as a flexible document that will adapt to the reality of the municipality. For its elaboration, the Finestrat City Council received support from the Generalitat Valenciana, through a €4,000 subsidy from the Ministry of Housing, Employment, Youth and Equality, within the call for grants to promote citizen integration.
