The initiative, named Guardianes del Planeta (Guardians of the Planet), aims to instill respect for the environment from the classrooms, extending these sustainable habits to families and society in general. This project combines selective waste collection with the use of a new weather station.
On International Mother Earth Day, members of the Rotary Club Jávea visited the center to learn firsthand about the actions already implemented. Among these, a selective waste collection system managed by the students themselves stands out. They take turns weekly collecting paper, containers, and organic matter from the four bins installed in each classroom. This organic waste is then used in a composter to generate fertilizer for the school garden.
“"The objective is to improve the planet through small daily actions. The work carried out at the center has a direct impact on homes. It is a common path to care for both the educational center and the neighborhood and the planet globally."
To reinforce this practical learning, the Rotary Club Jávea has donated a weather station to the center. This tool will allow students to measure precipitation, wind, and temperature, facilitating the interpretation of scientific data and promoting responsible water use. Additionally, the project will feature the collaboration of a Rotary club member to monitor the garden's performance and teach schoolchildren the process of healthy vegetable cultivation.
This initiative aligns with Rotary International's strategic areas of interest, focusing on the environment and youth, providing students with the necessary resources to complement their theoretical training with real-world experience on ecosystem functioning.
