The Councilor for Festivals of Xàbia, Mavi Pérez (Ciudadanos por Jávea), has declined any responsibility for the disastrous state of the electrical wiring existing next to the venue where the City Council has this year provided space for the associations' stalls.
Through social media, Pérez has shared photographs showing how the municipal subcontractor left the electrical box for each association's connection in good condition. According to the councilor, if the installation has become a dangerous tangle of loose wires, the fault lies with each festive group of les Fogueres de Sant Joan.
Pérez explains that «the subcontractor commissioned by the Festivals department left an individual supply point prepared for each stall». From that moment on, she adds, «each association carried out its own electrical connection with the installer they freely chose to hire and paid for out of their own pocket, assuming responsibility for the installation from that point».
The councilor admits that the City Council has not carried out any subsequent monitoring of this electrical installation to verify that it remained in its initial condition. This occurs despite the fact that it is the council that has provided the land and, therefore, should ensure safety.
Sources consulted by this newspaper indicate that the City Council, as responsible for the public service and the connection to the public lighting, should review the optimal conditions of the installation, especially in a festive environment with minors present.
In addition to the wiring problem, the connection box has been partially torn from the facade where it was attached.
Pérez has expressed indignation over the complaints on social media and the published information, insisting that the wiring shown does not correspond to the original state of the installation, but rather to the subsequent connections made by each association. Finally, she reiterated the department's commitment to safety, transparency, and truthful information.
