The political party Vox has brought a motion to the Dénia plenary session opposing migrant regularization, a measure promoted by the Government of Spain. According to the proposal, this regularization will have an «especially negative impact» on the capital of Marina Alta, affecting housing, healthcare, and education.
The motion comes at a time when the Dénia City Council, governed by PSPV and Compromís, has activated a special protocol to facilitate the regularization of migrants in the municipality. Vox's initiative, which is not expected to pass given the left-wing majority, includes six key measures.
“"Reject the massive regularization of immigrants in an illegal situation, considering that it generates a negative impact on the sustainability of public services, social cohesion, and access to basic resources by the residents of the municipality."
Among the proposed measures is the defense of the «national priority principle» at the local level, seeking to ensure that access to social aid, public housing, and municipal benefits prioritizes Spanish citizens registered in Dénia. The Government of Spain is also urged to strengthen control over irregular immigration and review measures that favor mass regularization processes.
The motion also seeks for municipal housing policies to prioritize access for young people and families in Dénia, and to promote responsible management of municipal public services, limiting access in non-essential cases for people in irregular situations. Finally, it proposes to periodically evaluate the economic and social impact of migration policies in the locality.
The party argues that regularization will hinder access to housing, collapse municipal services such as emergency aid, overcrowd the hospital and health centers, increase the workload of teachers, and deteriorate coexistence in Dénia, in addition to increasing the tax burden.
