The century-old fishing boat 'Choroll', dating from 1917, is displayed restored on the roundabout at the entrance to Duanes de la Mar, Xàbia, after a symbolic christening ceremony.

The historic 'Choroll' boat, a vessel from 1917 with 109 years of history, is now showcased restored on the roundabout at the intersection of Ausiàs March and Port avenues, serving as the entrance to the maritime district of Duanes de la Mar, in Xàbia.
The restoration work, costing approximately 63,000 euros, was commissioned by the Xàbia City Council last year. For months, the boat remained hidden under a tarp cover while the work progressed. Today, the council and the fishing family of Xàbia have celebrated a symbolic christening to relaunch it.
The event was attended by four generations of the seafaring lineage descended from Antonio Serrat, known as 'El Roig de la Pipa', who was the owner of the 'Choroll'. Representatives from the Xàbia Fishermen's Guild and the City Council were also present, including the mayor, Rosa Cardona, who reaffirmed the council's support for the fishing sector.
During the christening, a curious anecdote occurred when the bottle of cava thrown against the hull did not break on the first few attempts. Finally, it had to be struck directly against the bow by José Serrat Cholbi, known as 'Tomaca', to successfully break it and complete the ritual.
The 'Choroll' is not only a historic vessel but also a symbol for Duanes de la Mar, as it has crowned this roundabout since 2004.
