The town of Pego is preparing to host the 42nd edition of the Volta a Peu on May 2nd, a sporting event that expects to bring together over a thousand participants in the Circuit a Peu de la Marina Alta.
This race, considered the dean of the circuit, aims to exceed the participation figures of the previous edition, which saw nearly a thousand runners, of whom 817 competed in the general race.
The sporting day will begin at 4:30 PM in the Paseo Cervantes with the children's categories. The youngest, including cherubs aged 3 and 4, will have their opportunity to participate, thus fostering a love for sports from an early age. A spokesperson for the Dorsal 19 club, the main organizer of the event, highlighted the importance of including all children.
“
"In Pego, the cherubs, aged 3 and 4, start. Although they do not officially participate in the Marina Alta circuit, we include them because they already participate in the Dorsal 19 school; it's a way for the little ones to develop a passion for this sport."
The general race will start at 7:00 PM. The route will remain the same as in the last two editions, combining an urban section of about 4 kilometers with a part that will run through the areas of Sant Antoni and Socarrades within the municipal area. Both the start and finish lines will be located in the Paseo Cervantes, an emblematic place for the race.
“
"Paseo Cervantes is an emblematic place; in fact, I believe it is the most beautiful finish line in the entire Marina Alta circuit."
The organization aims to exceed one thousand participants, although they acknowledge that another athletic event held the day before in the neighboring town of Oliva could influence participation. The Sports Councilor thanked the Dorsal 19 club for their dedication in making this race a benchmark in the region, as well as the collaboration of security agents and the nearly 60 volunteers who make the event possible.
Furthermore, the sustainable aspect of the race was highlighted. Upon finishing, runners will receive local products, fruit, and drinks in 100% recycled packaging, as a contribution to improving and defending the environment.
