The collaboration between Pedreguer and Gata in fire prevention, emergency coordination, and security has been ongoing for almost a decade. Both town councils have signed the renewal of the agreement they have maintained since 2017 through their Civil Protection group.
The new agreement, signed this Thursday, highlights the importance of the convention as a commitment to regionalization in the Marina Alta. It allows for optimizing resources and providing a better service, increasing efficiency in preventive fire detection.
This year's novelties are part of the PreviFoc 2026 Plan for both municipalities. This plan will have a joint investment of 37,000 euros and 44 volunteers. The main addition is the four new forest video surveillance cameras, which will allow constant monitoring of both areas.
The teams will be able to access images of the municipal area in real-time via a tablet and use the management program with a TETRA base terminal from the Generalitat Valenciana Emergency Network. The group also has six intervention vehicles: four cars and two motorcycles.
With these new technical means, a rapid detection of any smoke column can be made, alerting 112 and mobilizing the necessary resources to deal with any fire. This summer's reinforcement campaign will run from May 15 to September 15.
Furthermore, forest surveillance has been decentralized for four years and is carried out from February 1 to November 1 each year, due to the impact of climate change in this geographical area, which has significantly altered the forest fire season. In 2025, more than 7,200 hours of volunteering were carried out with a hundred coordinated interventions.
