The Ondara Athletics Club, with the collaboration of the Ondara City Council and the Department of Sports, is organizing the XXVI Volta Popular Ondara. The event, presented by club representatives and local authorities including mayor José Ramiro and sports councilor Jordi Ruiz, is consolidating itself as one of the most important sporting events in the town.
The Councilor for Sports, Jordi Ruiz, highlighted the regional sporting scope of the race and thanked the sponsors, the Ondara Local Police, Somesport, and the Ondara Athletics Club for their support. He expressed his anticipation for "great participation in a race that participants really enjoy".
Miguel Moreno, president of the Ondara Athletics Club, explained that the route is "more urban, more pleasant, and with a lot of public proximity," creating a "very special atmosphere." The most emblematic section remains the "demanding but short and fun" climb to Torre Carrals, which leads to a "practically downhill" finish to the finish line.
The day will begin at 4:30 PM with youth categories and the inclusive race. The main adult race will start at 7:00 PM from General Bosch Avenue. The route will pass through areas like El Prat and Verger Street, combining the urban center with sections through the municipal area, and will finish on Dénia Street leading to the historic center, with the finish line on General Bosch Street.
Entertainment is guaranteed with over 10 music points and a performance by the Batucada Arttack d´Ondara.
Registrations for adults not previously registered in the Circuit remain open until this Friday, May 22nd, at 12:00 PM via the website www.somesport.com. For Ondara schoolchildren, a QR code and circulars have been provided to schools. No race-day registrations will be accepted. The organization expects around 1,000 runners in the main race and about 350 in the school categories.
In the previous edition, Andrés Macías Sánchez (CA Port de Torrevieja) was the male winner with a time of 32:14, while Mónica Pascual (CA Safor Teika) won in the female category with 37:54.
