After eleven years as Mayor of Dénia, socialist Vicent Grimalt will spend his last weekend with the mayoral staff. Next Monday, June 15th, at seven in the evening, an extraordinary plenary session will be held to acknowledge his resignation from the post.
For the remainder of the week, the deputy mayor and leader of Compromís, Rafa Carrió, will serve as acting mayor. This provisional arrangement will conclude on Saturday, June 20th, when a second plenary session will see Carrió appointed as the official mayor, with the expected support of the PSPV and Compromís majority.
Once the procedure is formalized, Carrió will assume the highest municipal responsibility, including the authority to reassign council portfolios, an issue that has recently caused controversy between the two left-wing parties.
In his final working days, Grimalt presented the new urban bus service, set to launch on the same Monday. The presentation involved driving one of the new coaches across the central Carrer Campo, a gesture symbolizing the executive's new mobility model.
Carrió took part in a symbolic moment by taking the wheel of one of the new buses, an image many interpret as a metaphor for his upcoming leadership of Dénia until 2027.
Additionally, Grimalt has completed the renovation works at the Torrecremada estate, which will become a university campus. He also attended an event in La Xara to address the non-payment issues affecting Aprosdeco, an organization that gave him an emotional farewell tribute.
