This decision, affecting the entire Valencian Community, was made at an assembly of the STEPV, CCOO, and UGT unions. The call responds to the mandate of a survey in which nearly 10,000 teachers participated across the autonomous region, where the majority voted to begin the strike on this date and simultaneously in all three provinces.
The main objective is for the Ministry to address their demands before the academic year concludes. The actions for the first week aim for a massive mobilization, intending to empty classrooms of teachers and generate maximum impact. A subsequent assembly, scheduled for May 15, will analyze the effects of the mobilization to decide the next steps and maintain pressure throughout the month.
“"Public education professionals have decided to escalate pressure after a full academic year of demands for the Generalitat to improve their salary and working conditions."
The decision to escalate pressure comes after an unsuccessful year of demands and exhausted negotiations with the Ministry of Education. The trigger was the refusal of the minister, Carmen Ortí, on April 20, to offer a proposal to improve teacher salaries, who are demanding a 300 euro monthly increase to move out of the lowest-paid bracket in the country.
Union representatives even proposed a gradual salary increase, but this alternative was also rejected. In addition to salary improvements, demands include reducing student-teacher ratios, reinforcing staff, air conditioning buildings, and halting cuts to Valencian language education, issues that, according to the unions, the Ministry has not even addressed.
