Jonas and David Tofterup, two brothers of Danish origin, have restored a 17th-century riurau in Benissa, reviving a traditional Marina Alta structure to house their wine business.

Riuraus, emblematic structures of the Marina Alta region, historically served to dry and protect raisins from adverse weather. Their heritage value is recognized even by those not native to the area, as demonstrated by Jonas and David Tofterup, two Danish brothers who fell in love with one of these buildings.
"Seeing this riurau gave us goosebumps, and we decided it would be the ideal place to locate our business," explains Jonas Tofterup. The 17th-century construction required extensive restoration to preserve its original architecture, including the shape of the windows.

"It has been long and very bureaucratic; we had to respect the architecture, the shape of the windows, etc."

Wine was already part of the Tofterup brothers' lives. David, the elder brother, started working in a wine company at 21, while Jonas had been helping out since he was very young. Now, with the riurau restored and the new grape harvest in sight, they are hopeful their business will thrive, protected by this centuries-old structure.
