These actions, financed with European Next Generation funds, are part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. The Director General of Local Administration, José Antonio Redorat, highlighted the importance of these homologated itineraries as a "strategic tool to combat depopulation and revitalize rural areas sustainably".
According to Redorat, the arrival of hikers and nature tourists throughout the year generates "extra income", connects municipalities through "connection itineraries", and enhances the landscape. Furthermore, the signage and regulation of natural spaces "prevent the degradation of sensitive areas" and "foster respect for the environment".
The project, named 'Sendes de la Comunitat Valenciana' (Trails of the Valencian Community), is developed in two phases: one focused on infrastructure and another on promotion through videos, brochures, and signage. "All of this is part of a joint strategy that responds to the idea and strategic axis we have called ‘more interior, more life’", stated the Director General.
The first section presented is located in Bolulla, in the mountains of Alicante, and connects three towns: Callosa d'en Sarrià, Bolulla, and Castell de Castells, in the Marina Alta region. It is a route of approximately 15 kilometers.
The main objective of 'Sendes de la Comunitat Valenciana' is to recover traditional paths, homologate and signpost safe itineraries, connect rural municipalities, boost active and sustainable tourism, and support towns at risk of depopulation.
The project aims to be a territorial development tool that generates local economic activity, protects natural and cultural heritage, promotes sustainable use of the environment, and reinforces the identity of the towns.
The 30 municipalities included in this initiative are: Bolulla, Gátova, Quesa, Bicorp, Venta del Moro, Aras de los Olmos, Chelva, Chulilla, Vallanca, Ademuz, Casas Bajas, Zorita del Maestrazgo, Morella, Cinctorres, Castellfort, Ares del Maestrat, Toga, Arañuel, Montanejos, Culla, and Sierra de Engarcerán.
