Gent de Dénia (GD) has presented a motion to the Dénia City Council to promote new avenues of support for the Ukrainian community residing in the city, especially for refugees due to the war.

The initiative stems from dialogue with local associations such as Asociación Ayuda a Ucrania and Juntos Somos Fuertes, which have conveyed various existing needs in Dénia. These needs include difficulties in accessing housing, training, employment integration, language learning, psychological support, and assistance for families and minors.
According to the latest available data, the Ukrainian population registered in Dénia was around 1,046 people during the 2023–2024 period. This figure reflects the community's significance in the city and is likely to have increased in the current context.
The motion proposes moving towards a more stable, coordinated, and sustained support model, strengthening the City Council's role as a facilitating institution and promoting collaboration with associations working directly on the ground.
The proposal focuses on attracting European funds aimed at supporting refugees and their social, educational, and labor integration. The European Union currently has various funding lines under the temporary protection mechanism, valid until March 2027, which represents an opportunity to develop local projects without generating a significant additional burden on the municipal budget.
Furthermore, the initiative considers the need for municipal technical support to identify calls for proposals and prepare projects, as well as to foster alliances with other entities at local, national, and European levels. The motion includes a proposal to create a commission with representation from municipal political groups and involved associations, with the aim of promoting coordination, information exchange, and evaluation of actions that may be developed.
