The Animal Defense Platform in Xàbia has expressed its support for the mayor's decision not to authorize the 'bou embolat' (fire bull) event in the municipality, urging bullfighting supporters to respect this stance.

The animal rights group highlighted that the mayor's refusal to reinstate this tradition, despite belonging to the Popular Party, demonstrates that common sense prevails beyond political affiliations. They also request that this decision be extended to any event involving the use of animals, as they consider all such acts incompatible with animal protection.

"We ask bullfighting supporters to have some dignity and finally leave the mayor in peace. She has shown us that, even belonging to a party like the PP, she is capable of independently prioritizing common sense, not supporting something as outdated and stale as the 'bou embolat'."

In a statement, the organization recalled that veterinary and biologist reports underscore the suffering behind 'bou embolat' events, especially due to the fear animals experience from fire. Furthermore, they pointed out that holding these events risks human lives, with numerous injuries and deaths recorded, in addition to wasting resources and failing to protect children from violence.
The Animal Defense Platform added that opposing acts involving animals defines society and adapts it to the 21st century. They cited examples such as Santa Pola, where the PP also ceased to authorize bullfighting events, and a councilwoman in San Fulgencio delivered a critical speech against bullfighting in a municipal plenary session.
Finally, the group urged bullfighting supporters to respect the mayor's decision, thanking her for her courage, while also asking her to go a step further by extending this decision to all events that use animals.
