The tripartite government of Calp (formed by Somos Calpe, PSPV, and Compromís), which is in a minority since a councilwoman moved to the non-attached group, will bring a credit modification to the plenary session this Tuesday. This proposal seeks to finance various investments with over 4 million euros from treasury surpluses, including the construction of new paddle tennis courts and the installation of pergolas and roofs to provide shade in school playgrounds.
The local government aims to convince the opposition, arguing that both projects have broad neighborhood support. The paddle tennis courts have nearly one thousand signatures from residents, while the creation of shade in schoolyards is backed by 250 signatures.
“"This file does not respond to partisan interests, but to real demands from citizens that the local government has decided to listen to and incorporate."
The tripartite considers this Tuesday's plenary session as the first major test of the opposition's responsibility following the councilwoman's departure. It questions whether opposition groups will support these citizen demands or vote against them, warning that blocking these investments would harm Calp.
The Calp government emphasizes that anyone wishing to propose a government alternative has democratic mechanisms such as a motion of no confidence, and anyone who believes an action can be improved can submit amendments. However, it notes that it would not be understandable for citizens to block necessary and widely supported investments without offering any alternative. Finally, the tripartite urges the opposition to act with institutional responsibility and allow positive actions for the municipality to move forward.
