The Association Amics de la Costera-Institut d’Estudis Comarcals organized the II Meeting of Writers from La Costera, which took place last Saturday, May 16th, in the municipality of Montesa. The event brought together nearly 50 literary professionals from various towns in the region.
The main objective of this gathering was to create a regional network among writers, providing a space for coexistence, dialogue, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences. The meeting also served to highlight the significant number and quality of writers residing in La Costera. This initiative, which began in 2025 with the first edition in Xàtiva, aims to become an annual event, rotating locations within La Costera each year.
The welcome address was given by Héctor Barberà, the mayor of Montesa, and Vicent Torregrosa, president of the organizing Association. The closing remarks were delivered by José Luis Gijón, president of the La Costera-La Canal Mancomunidad. The day featured the presentation of the reissued publication “Conte contat. Rondalles populars de la Costera”, by Josep V. Martínez, M. Josep Juan, and Miquel Mollà. A guided tour of the Plaza de la Vila was also conducted by historian Josep Cerdà i Ballester.
Following a coffee break, a session of literary dialogues, coordinated by writer and philologist Alexia Úbeda, focused on the relationship between literature and heritage. Subsequently, Lorena Cayuela, a writer and member of the Association's Board of Directors, read a manifesto. The event concluded with a fellowship lunch at a restaurant in Montesa and a guided tour of the Castle of Montesa, where attendees spontaneously recited texts.
The organization was made possible through the collaboration of the La Costera-La Canal Mancomunidad, the Montesa City Council, the Parish of La Asunción of Montesa, Librería La Costera, and Librería Xàtiva.
