The political formation plans to register motions in various city councils of the Valencian Community during the month of May, with the aim of forcing the positioning of other political groups. In the case of Torrent, the initiative has already been registered and will be debated in the ordinary plenary session in June.
The 'national priority' proposal seeks to give preference to Spanish citizens in access to public aid, social housing, and certain services, over the migrant population. This measure has already been incorporated into regional government agreements between Vox and the Popular Party in territories such as Aragon and Extremadura, and the motions on mass regularization follow the same line.
“"This motion means giving preference to those who contribute, who sustain the public system, and who have earned it. It is pure common sense, especially in access to housing policies and social aid."
This strategy by Vox places the Popular Party in a delicate situation in those councils where it does not have an absolute majority, as is the case in Torrent. Sources close to the party have indicated that, to date, the voting direction and strategy are still undefined.
The deputy spokesperson for Vox in Torrent added that the motion also demands absolute rigor in each procedure and individualized verification of the requirements for accessing public services. Furthermore, she warned that the current process could be collapsing some services such as the census, registry, and social welfare.
The development of the debate in the upcoming municipal plenary sessions will determine the real scope of this initiative and the degree of alignment between the Popular Party and Vox at the local level, in a context where both formations maintain government agreements at different levels of administration.
