Representatives of the main flood victims' associations gathered outside the Catarroja courts, where the judge summoned the government's first vice-president, Susana Camarero, to testify as a witness. She is the first minister from former president Carlos Mazón's government, excluding the investigated Salomé Pradas, to testify in this case, which is investigating a presumed charge of negligent homicide following the deaths of 230 people in the October 29, 2024 floods.
Camarero entered the courthouse before her scheduled testimony time (9:30 AM), thus avoiding an encounter with the people waiting for her arrival at the entrance. As confirmed by the Superior Court of Justice, Camarero had judicial authorization to access the building via the garage, following security force recommendations.
Officers had deployed a significant security operation, including a police cordon and barriers, to separate the protesters from individuals accessing the judicial facilities.
“"The victims' associations continue to demand truth, justice, and reparation, as well as clarification of all responsibilities arising from the tragedy"
The spokespersons for these three entities, Mariló Gradolí, Toñi García, and Rosa Álvarez, are among the protesters gathered outside the courts. The demonstrators are wearing black t-shirts with the inscription "20.11", the time the ES-Alert warning was issued on the day of the heavy rainfall, and carrying banners with messages such as "Truth, justice and reparation" and "Our relatives died due to your incompetence. Murderers". They also chanted slogans like "Camarero, resign".
The head of Court 3, Civil and Instruction Section of Catarroja, recently requested the adoption of security measures following a protest gathering outside the courts.
