The UNISOCIETAT program in Benetússer has reached its tenth anniversary, establishing itself as a benchmark in adult higher education in the l'Horta Sud region, with significant female participation.

Last Friday, April 17, the Nou Espai center in Benetússer hosted the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the UNISOCIETAT program. This initiative, born from the collaboration between the University of Valencia and the Benetússer City Council, has brought higher education closer to the public for a decade.
The local mayor emphasized during the event that the desire to learn has no age and that knowledge is a fundamental tool for collective development. Since its launch in 2016, the program has become a cultural pillar in the l'Horta Sud region.

"The desire to learn has no age and knowledge is an indispensable tool for collective development."

Over this first decade, a student profile with a clear female majority has been observed. Of the 417 students who have attended UNISOCIETAT classes in Benetússer, 65% are women, compared to 35% men. This fact reflects that many women have found in this program the opportunity to access university that they may not have had in their youth.
The age range of participants varies from 35 to 88 years old. Although the majority (72.5%) are residents of Benetússer, the program has attracted students from other municipalities such as Catarroja, Alfafar, Paiporta, Valencia, and Alginet, demonstrating its regional reach.
Beyond the four academic modules per course, UNISOCIETAT seeks to foster debate and reflection. As a highlight of the anniversary, the event included a talk-colloquium on sexuality, given by a psychologist and sexologist, moving away from traditional academic rigidity to address more human and personal topics. This initiative underscores the philosophy of lifelong learning for a society that seeks not only theoretical knowledge but also tools to live better through all stages of life. Benetússer thus celebrates ten years of inquisitive minds, proving that it is never too late to return to class.
