The Sedaví council was honored at a meeting organized by the Mancomunidad de Mejorada del Campo, where the work of its Social Services was highlighted. The presentation, titled From Emergency to Reconstruction, detailed the work carried out from the first moments of the catastrophe to the current process of social and community recovery.
During the presentation, the rapid reaction capacity of the City Council was emphasized in the face of an unprecedented situation that affected more than 1,000 homes, municipal infrastructures, educational centers, businesses, and public spaces. Municipal Social Services were fundamental in providing immediate attention to citizens, activating emergency devices to guarantee accommodation, food, medication, clothing, emotional support, and care for the most vulnerable people.
“"Reconstruction is not only physical; it is also social, emotional, and community-based, and the Sedaví City Council has championed this from day one."
Furthermore, a broad operation was coordinated with the Local Police, Civil Protection, municipal brigades, Third Sector entities, health personnel, and specialized volunteers. Sedaví's experience has been highlighted in Madrid as an example of public leadership, institutional coordination, and social support in emergency contexts, especially in the face of increasingly frequent extreme weather phenomena.
The presentation also served to advocate for the need to strengthen municipal Social Services as an essential structure in crisis management. Likewise, the importance of having specific protocols, greater integration into emergency bodies, and a reduction in bureaucracy to facilitate access to aid was emphasized.
The Sedaví City Council has expressed gratitude for the recognition received and the collaboration of all administrations, social entities, and professionals who participated in the response and reconstruction after the DANA.
