“"We must put on the table the need to view recovery as a social, territorial, and political process that must be understood, discussed, and closely followed. Because rebuilding is not just repairing what has been broken. It is also about questioning trust, coordination capacity, a shared understanding of the moment, institutions capable of listening, and a citizenry that is not reduced to the role of passive witness to a process that will affect them in everything."

elDiario.es and Placemaking Europe have initiated a second survey for the recovery of areas affected by the DANA storm on October 29, 2024, seeking residents' priorities.
Starting today and for two weeks, thousands of residents from the regions affected by the DANA will be able to participate in a survey. The objective is for them to indicate their priorities and needs for the reconstruction of their localities.
On April 29, in Paiporta, a focus group will be held. This will be coordinated by the foundation led by a Valencian economist and urban planner, and will bring together social leaders from the flooded areas, university experts, CSIC, and companies. The purpose is to complement the results obtained from the survey.
Finally, on May 7, the Museu de la Rajoleria de Paiporta will host the second edition of the event 'Innovation for Recovery. Rebuilding Valencia after the DANA floods'. This museum is one of the public facilities that was affected by the floods and has already been recovered for citizens. The idea is to bring together international and Valencian experts, as well as political leaders from the affected municipalities and the Government of Spain, to share experiences.
Once the event, survey, and focus group are concluded, elDiario.es will present the conclusions of the first participatory process to all its partners, readers, and society in general. A year after the first session, held in Catarroja, the importance of not confusing recovery with simple repair is highlighted, as an affected society needs more than public works and aid to fully rebuild.
