One of the priorities of the Mancomunitat de l'Horta Sud is the training of local councils and social agents in emergency and disaster prevention. This need has been particularly highlighted after the DANA that devastated the region on October 29, 2024. For this reason, the institution has been developing various initiatives over the past year, including the European project Resist.
To carry out this action, the Mancomunitat has partnered with two specialized and renowned companies: the Spanish firm Connect Clean, which coordinates the project, and the French company Avre Expertise, which has provided the technological tools. The Resist project is part of the Erasmus K-210 initiative of the European Union.
“"The dimension of the tragedy that affected us is so great that we have to promote training actions in different areas to better prepare ourselves. The Resist project has allowed us to learn about many previous European experiences."
Through Resist, and over the course of a year, a hundred people from municipal staff have received online training in three key areas: floods, fires, and heat and cold waves. For this, 30 panelists representing institutions and companies that have implemented good practices in disaster-stricken territories have delivered the training sessions.
All the material obtained, including videos of the presentations and complementary documents, has allowed for the creation of a powerful interactive platform that will be presented shortly and will be available to the public. This presentation is part of a series of conferences that will take place in May at the facilities of Florida Grup Educatiu, in Catarroja.
In fact, on May 4 and 5, the educational complex will host one of the most important activities of Resist, with the participation of over 100 specialists from the business, institutional, and security forces sectors. The first day will include presentations and workshops, and the students of the training, as well as social agents from l'Horta Sud and other mancomunitats, will be able to attend a 'showroom' of companies and institutions that will present proposals for actions in cases of catastrophes and emergencies. Additionally, diplomas for the training and accreditation for the local councils will be awarded.
For the second day, the Resist team is working on designing a simulation exercise in which Florida students will participate, set within the complex's premises. Regional entities and the population of Catarroja will be invited to this event.
