The third vice-president and regional minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, visited this section on the occasion of its opening. According to a statement from the Generalitat, the Green Ring will have a total length of 56 kilometers, forming a continuous route that borders the entire metropolitan area of València and connects different municipalities through safe routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
The pedestrian bridge put into service is part of the so-called section 2, one of the most affected by the DANA (cold drop storm). With the opening of this new segment, an additional 5 kilometers are incorporated into the overall route, expanding the possibilities for public use and enjoyment and strengthening the connection between urban environments and natural spaces.
This action is part of the Endavant plan, aimed at improving metropolitan mobility through sustainable alternatives, and will be integrated with floodable parks, combining prevention against climatic episodes with new quality public spaces. The Sedaví–Picanya section, with a length of 5.6 kilometers, is part of the metropolitan cycle-pedestrian itinerary that will connect the València area through a continuous, safe, and accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists.
This Tuesday, 5 kilometers have been put into service, and it is expected that before summer the entire section will be operational after the installation of the pedestrian bridge over the Silla track, which will take place in the coming weeks and will allow access to Pinedo.
The works have focused on the section between the initial roundabout and kilometer point 2+829, where it connects with the cycle-pedestrian itinerary of the CV-400, and, on the other hand, on the section running from the underpass under the same road, at kilometer point 3+479, to the vicinity of the València Sud facilities, where the pedestrian bridge over the Metrovalencia tracks is now in service.
This structure, approximately 40 meters long and 5 meters wide, has been designed as a tubular truss metal pedestrian bridge that will allow crossing the railway line with all safety and accessibility guarantees. The installation process took place last summer during the final phase of the reconstruction works that allowed the recovery of Metrovalencia service after the DANA.
The works on this section, which began in June 2023 and resumed after the floods, have an investment of 3.6 million euros financed with Next Generation European funds, and will complete a new link within this network once the now resumed works are finished.
The Metropolitan Green Ring of València constitutes a strategic infrastructure for connecting the municipalities of the metropolitan area, favoring not only sustainable mobility but also territorial integration and access to the natural and agricultural spaces of the surroundings. The project contemplates creating a continuous cycle-pedestrian infrastructure of 56 kilometers, divided into nine sections. Currently, six sections (1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9) are fully operational, while the final phase of section 2, which was partially opened today, is being addressed. In parallel, actions are being developed in section 5, which was affected by the DANA as it runs through the Turia Natural Park, and progress is being made on the project for section 8, in the coastal area of Alboraya.
