The provincial head of Roads and second vice-president of the Diputación explained that this technical opening allows circulation on the main axis of the new platform, which will immediately improve traffic flow. Final works are ongoing before the complete culmination of the project.
“"This is a technical opening to enable circulation on the main axis of the new platform. This will generate an immediate improvement in traffic flow while the final works continue before the project is fully completed."
Once this action is definitively completed, the Diputación will consider requesting the transfer of ownership of the road to the Generalitat. The Diputación's priority is to focus efforts and investments on secondary and regional roads that structure the territory and provide direct service to smaller municipalities.
Currently, the priority is for Red Eléctrica to remove the high-voltage power lines in the area to finalize the safety improvement works on a road that sees over 20,000 vehicles daily.
The large-scale project has been divided into four phases. This fourth and final phase, with a budget of 12.5 million euros, involves duplicating the roadway with full access control, separating local and through traffic via service roads. Access to the Montemayor, el Collado, and la Presa urbanizations will be via two roundabouts connected by a new structure under which the main road section runs.
Road safety improvements are further enhanced by the construction of a cycle and pedestrian path, extending the section already completed in the first three phases. Landscape restoration actions are also planned, including tree and shrub planting, acoustic screens, and wildlife crossings. The works are completed with drainage and urbanization, relocation of bus stops, lighting networks, signage, containment systems, and replacement of affected services, such as the diversion of the drinking water pipeline.
