The image of Saint Peter departed from the Church of San Miguel to journey across the lake by boat, an event blending religious heritage, popular culture, and identity linked to the Albufera. The procession was accompanied by festival-goers, residents, and the Unió Musical de Catarroja to the Port.
The mayor of Catarroja, Lorena Silvent, highlighted that the festival represents the town's soul, connecting with its history, the Albufera, and generations of fishermen. She emphasized the significance of the Comú de Pescadors as a unique and ancient institution of the Valencian territory.
As part of the celebration, a commemorative ceramic mural was unveiled at the Casa dels Pescadors, created by the city council. It pays tribute to the Comú de Pescadors de l’Albufera on its 775th anniversary, recognizing its contribution to preserving a way of life tied to the lake.
Following the inauguration, the image of Saint Peter was transferred to traditional boats for a voyage to the center of the Albufera, where a mass and the traditional blessing of the lake took place.
The Romería de Sant Pere al Port stands as a manifestation of Catarroja's intangible cultural heritage, keeping alive the legacy of artisanal fishing and the municipality's identity.
