The Catarroja Social Services headquarters, located on Rei en Jaume I Avenue, suffered significant damage during the DANA storm on October 29, 2024, rendering it unusable. After 17 months, the city council has started its rehabilitation with an investment exceeding 429,000 euros, funded by state funds. This action will allow the recovery of this nearly 400 square meter facility for user assistance.
Until now, the service has been provided in two municipal buildings: the Espai Barraques and the exhibition hall of the Palau Vivanco, where services had to be relocated after the flood. The premises were completely submerged by water, which reached a level of 1.50 meters, and mud. Damage was recorded in all interior wooden carpentry, baseboards, furniture, and glass partitions, in addition to humidity in vertical plasterboard walls, and loss of signage and equipment. All electrical, ventilation, and air conditioning installations were rendered unusable.
The City Council has initiated the works, which have a four-month execution period. The project's objective is the reconstruction and restoration of the premises to guarantee the functionality and safety of administrative use. It consists of re-equipping the premises with sufficient dimensions to allow this use, complying with fire safety measures and accessibility for all people with maximum autonomy.
To this end, the dismantling of damaged installations, the restoration of electrical, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning, and IT installations, and the installation of fire detection and protection systems have been planned. Masonry work is also being carried out on the interior partitions and the restoration of office separations using glass and wooden coverings. Additionally, the recovery of interior and exterior carpentry and signage will be undertaken.
