The Paterna City Council, through its Social Inclusion department, organized an institutional event in collaboration with various entities to commemorate International Romani Day, celebrated on April 8.

The Paterna Auditorium was the setting for this emotional day, dedicated to the recognition, gratitude, and celebration of the history, culture, identity, and dignity of the Romani people. The event highlighted their contribution to society and the importance of continuing to advance in equality, respect, and coexistence, as stated by the council in a press release.

"The council will continue to work hand in hand to advance in a city where diversity is not only respected but valued and is essential to continue enjoying a more just and egalitarian society."

Isabel Segura · Deputy Mayor for Social Guarantee, Equality, and Traditions
The event brought together council members from the government team, representatives from different city entities, residents, and numerous Romani families, whose presence was highlighted as essential to give meaning to this gathering.
During the event, Isabel Segura presented various awards to leading individuals and entities for their commitment and work in favor of the inclusion and visibility of the Romani people. Among those honored were Alfredo Muñoz Mendoza, president of the La Coma Neighborhood Association; the Fundación Secretariado Gitano; students from 4th year of ESO at La Coma Institute; and Jesús Ramírez Escudero, from the Autonomous Federation of Romani Associations of the Valencian Community (FAGA).
Finally, a special mention was also made to Consuelo Cano Domínguez, in gratitude for her years of dedication at the La Coma public school.
