Pitarch's poetry collection won the award after being chosen by a jury composed of poets and writers Víctor Benavides, Àngels Gregori, and Elm Puig. The jury unanimously decided to award the prize to the work submitted under the pseudonym Nakba.
According to the official record, Sentència 8.000.000 is "an honest work, with a rich variety of registers," notable for "the alternation of tones" without losing the overall cohesion. The jury also valued the daring approach of its verses and the presence of literary influences from different cultures and literatures.
The verdict describes it as a work that moves the reader "without denying discomfort," with seemingly simple verses but a profound underlying meaning. Manel Xavier Pitarch Font was born in Vila-real in 1966. He holds degrees in Catalan Philology and Spanish Literature from the Universitat de València and works as a teacher in public education.
His literary career, which began at a young age, notably includes the Jacint Verdaguer 2002 award, presented by Òmnium Cultural and the Ayuntamiento de Calldetenes. He has since received other accolades such as the Marc Granell 2015 prize for Primavera entre les runes, and the Ibn Hazm Ciutat de Xàtiva prize for Poemari per a ociosos.
For Pitarch, literary creation is an artistic facet that allows for explaining the world and humanity through an authentic language, committed to art and society. His creative universe now joins the list of winners of the Vicent Andrés Estellés Poetry Prize in Burjassot.
The Vicent Andrés Estellés Poetry Prize, awarded by the Ayuntamiento de Burjassot, reaches its twenty-fourth edition this year and includes a monetary prize of 9,000 euros. The competition, established in 1993, the same year the poet died, was created to honor his memory and aims to promote the figure and literary work of Vicent Andrés Estellés in his birthplace, while also fostering literary creation in Valencian.
