The new bins, now with a capacity of 3,200 liters (an increase from the previous 3,000 liters), feature automated side loading. This change facilitates the entire waste collection process, reducing the sight of overflowing bins and offering a more practical and hygienic system.
The Councilor for Municipal Services and Environment of the Foios City Council, Amparo Pérez, highlighted that the modernization of the bins will allow more waste to be disposed of in each container, improving overall waste management.
Currently, work is underway to determine the exact location of the new collection points to ensure the system is optimal for residents, without causing inconvenience or issues with the new trucks adapted for side loading.
This new model represents a structural improvement in terms of operational efficiency, image, sustainability, and workplace safety. Automated side loading, using a robotic arm, increases route productivity and the number of bins emptied per day.
From an environmental perspective, reduced route times and lower fuel consumption lead to a decrease in CO₂ emissions and atmospheric pollutants. The Foios City Council and the Carraixet Mancomunitat are thus moving towards a more efficient, safe, and sustainable waste collection system.
