The Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption in Foios has announced the closure of its doors from April 20 to 24 to carry out fumigation and treatment work against a woodworm infestation.

A woodworm infestation has forced the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption in Foios to close its facilities for five days. This closure, which will last from April 20 to 24, is due to the need to fumigate and treat the wood affected by this xylophagous insect.
The parish itself has informed its parishioners, through the municipal announcement, that the temple will remain inaccessible during this period. The objective is to carry out a thorough treatment of the altarpiece wood, benches, and sacristy furniture, among other elements, to eliminate the woodworm.

"The Parish of the Assumption informs that from Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24, the church will remain closed for fumigation and treatment of the wood of the altarpiece, benches, sacristy furniture, etc. We apologize for the inconvenience of not being able to hold worship services on those days in our church."

Woodworm, the common name for the larvae of various beetles that feed on wood, drills galleries inside furniture and structures, which can seriously compromise their integrity if not treated in time. In this case, not even the sacred altarpiece has been spared from its action.
It is expected that this setback will be resolved soon so that the temple in Foios will be ready for masses next weekend, once the disinfestation and restoration work has been completed.
