The extraordinary council meeting held this Wednesday formalized the handover agreement made at the beginning of the legislature between the PSPV and Compromís. According to the pact, socialist mayor Amparo Orts would govern for the first three years, ceding the mayoral chain to the Valencianist coalition in the final year. Gonzalvo, who entered the City Council at 19, thus becomes one of the youngest mayors in the Valencian Community.
With a political career developed entirely within the council, first as an opposition councilor and later as deputy mayor, the new mayor defines himself as a municipalist politician. He has highlighted the influence of figures like the former mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó, and the network of young Compromís officials across the region.
From Compromís, they emphasize their party's leadership in areas such as urban planning, mobility, environment, culture, heritage, and commerce, promoting economic revitalization initiatives and urban transformation projects.
“"Moncada needs 'an impetus' to face the challenges of the coming years and define a long-term city model."
Among the new mayor's priorities are housing, urban maintenance, cleanliness, and the development of strategic projects to consolidate the municipality's unique identity within the metropolitan area of Valencia.
This handover concludes 11 years of mandate for Amparo Orts, who will continue as deputy mayor according to the initial agreement. Gonzalvo faces a year of management with an eye on the 2027 municipal elections, where he will likely lead the Compromís candidacy.
