This initiative, part of the festival's 39th edition, aims to "conquer" and "transform" the urban spaces of the Valencian capital into artistic stages. Squares, parks, gardens, and museums will host various proposals, with the goal of bringing movement languages to new audiences and unconventional settings.
The activity's presentation was attended by Marta Alonso, regional secretary of Culture; María José Mora, deputy director of Performing Arts at the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC), the organizing entity; and José Luis Moreno, councillor for Cultural Action at the València City Council, which collaborates on the project.
The Moviments Urbans cycle will begin on Saturday, April 11, morning at the Museum of Fine Arts with proposals from Valencian talent. Jacob Gómez will present Quema, a piece exploring life's journey from vulnerability, while Cristina Reolid will offer Carne de bronce, a solo fusing flamenco singing with contemporary sounds. That same morning, the Trinidad Bridge will be the stage for AHNI (Acciones Humanas No Identificadas) by Hermanas Picohueso, a family-friendly proposal inviting reflection on the importance of body and movement.
On Saturday afternoon, the Plaça del Patriarca will transform into a dance ring with the All Styles Battle by València City Cypher, an urban dance event featuring live music, improvisation, and freestyle styles. International judges will not only evaluate the competition but also offer free classes and professional guidance.
On Sunday, April 12, the company Fil d'arena will propose a choreographic journey from the Serranos Towers through the streets of Ciutat Vella, seeking to reveal the poetry of urban architecture through interaction with public space. The cycle will conclude with the Alicante-based company Titoyaya Dansa, which will preview Liebe in the old bed of the Turia River (between the Pont de les Flors and Pont de l'Exposició), a piece directed by Gustavo Ramírez exploring the nature of falling in love.
The 39th edition of Dansa València, running from April 11 to 19, will bring together 37 companies from eight autonomous communities and one international, offering a diverse overview of current choreographic creation, from contemporary dance to flamenco and hybrid formats. Notable premieres include Ultimátum by Led Silhouette at the Teatre Principal, Las hijas de Bernarda by Taiat Dansa at the Teatre Martín i Soler de Les Arts, and Dominare by Cia. Maduixa at Nau Ribes. Additionally, La Mutant will host Imperfecto imposible by Richard Mascherin, and the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània (CCCC) will present Gush is Great by Production Xx.
