The meteorological shift is already a reality in the Comunitat Valenciana, with the arrival of a DANA (isolated depression at high levels) promising an unstable weekend. This atmospheric phenomenon, accompanied by a polar air mass, will cause a significant drop in temperatures and widespread rain across much of the territory.
In the province of Valencia, temperatures will fall, though less sharply than in other parts of the peninsula. The snow level will be at 1,500 meters altitude during Sunday afternoon and night, an unusual figure for this time of year, according to forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Another factor to consider is the presence of a 'river' of Saharan dust that will cloud the atmosphere throughout the weekend. When the rains arrive, which are expected to be widespread, they will leave a trail of mud across virtually the entire Comunitat Valenciana. Given this atmospheric pollution situation, the Valencia City Council has activated a protocol recommending avoiding outdoor physical activities and prioritizing public transport.
Rains will begin on Saturday afternoon from 6:00 PM, with a probability of downpours in inland Valencia and the northern coast of Alicante, which could be accompanied by mud and take the form of thunderstorms. In the city of Valencia, the probability of precipitation will increase to 95% from midnight, with Sunday morning being the time of greatest intensity. Persistent rains will continue until the early hours of Monday, April 13, the feast day of San Vicente.
Wind will be another protagonist, with gusts that could exceed 80 km/h in northern Castellón, which is why Aemet has activated a yellow warning for this area. This situation will extend to the entire province of Castellón on Monday, with an increase in wind intensity.
Sunday, April 12, will be the day with the most rain expected in the Comunitat Valenciana, with widespread precipitation that will weaken in the north by late evening, but could be locally strong in southern Alicante and some areas of southern Valencia. The drop in maximum temperatures will be notable inland and even extraordinary in the interior of the northern half. On Monday, temperatures will begin to recover slowly, especially the maximums.
