The Valencian ensemble, featuring the piano duo Silver-Garburg as soloists, will perform a concert as part of the Jeunesse-Musikerleben series. This performance represents the Valencia Orchestra's debut in the legendary Viennese hall, renowned for hosting the celebrated New Year's Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
This is the Valencia Orchestra's eighth international tour since it began its external projection in 1950, under the direction of José Iturbi. The Councillor for Cultural Action and president of the Palau de la Música, José Luis Moreno, highlighted the importance of this visit to one of the world's most significant musical capitals.
“"The visit to Vienna, one of the most important musical capitals in the world, and the performance of the Valencia Orchestra in the legendary Golden Hall of the Musikverein, reveal the dynamism and artistic impulse that the musical ensemble is acquiring."
For his part, Juan Pablo Valero, general director of València Music City, emphasized that this action is part of the strategies to promote the Valencian musical brand internationally. The director of the Palau de la Música, Vicente Llimerá, added that this presence at the Musikverein is the result of a sustained internationalization strategy that positions the orchestra within major European musical circuits.
The Valencian public already had the opportunity to enjoy the program to be performed in Vienna last Friday, April 10, at the Sala Iturbi of the Palau de la Música. The repertoire includes the overture from L’arbore di Diana by Vicente Martín y Soler, Suite No. 2 from Daphnis et Chloé by Maurice Ravel, and Piano Quartet No. 3 by Johannes Brahms in a concert version for piano four hands and orchestra, titled Werther, arranged by Richard Dünser, performed by the Silver-Garburg duo. The concert concludes with the symphonic poem Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, popularized by Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The Valencia Orchestra's international vocation dates back to its 1950 tour of France and Great Britain, spearheaded by José Iturbi. Other notable tours include Italy and Turkey in 1996, Germany in 2002 and 2003, Switzerland in 2005, Austria and the Czech Republic in 2008, and Paris in 2022. Recently, the orchestra has performed three sold-out concerts at the Auditorio Nacional de Madrid and participated in the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), with broadcasts on global media such as ORF, RTVE, NHK, ART, and Mezzo.
