The Councillor for Cultural Action and Heritage, José Luis Moreno, highlighted that this initiative represents an “exceptional opportunity to explore these spaces, as some are not usually open to the public.” The program, which will run from Friday, April 17th, to Sunday, April 19th, includes a series of conferences, guided tours, and free entry to monuments.
This year's central theme is air-raid shelters, characteristic structures of the city that can be found in the City Hall itself, the Lluís Vives Institute, or Serranos Street, among other locations. The first activity will be on Friday at the Valencia City Hall shelter, hosting an afternoon of specialized conferences.
“"This is an exceptional opportunity to get to know these spaces, as some are not usually open to the public."
Under the title “Urban Memory Tales: Rediscovering Valencia's Air-Raid Shelters,” the conferences will aim to reflect on the historical, archaeological, and heritage value of these places of memory. Specialists in history and architecture will address the conservation, interpretation, and significance of the shelters in the context of the Spanish Civil War in Valencia.
Throughout the weekend, guided tours will be offered to other air-raid shelters in the city, conducted in small groups and by prior reservation. Visitors can explore the shelters located on Serranos Street, at the Lluís Vives Secondary Education Institute (IES), at the Ripalda-Sogueros Falla, at the Vedruna - Sagrado Corazón School, and the City Hall shelter itself. Activities are open to all audiences, with limited capacity. To confirm attendance, interested individuals can call 604 04 91 50 or send an email to didactica.valencia@galipat.es.
Additionally, the program includes free and open access to the Lonja de los Mercaderes, the Serranos Towers, and the Quart Towers throughout the day on Saturday, April 18th, offering an invitation to rediscover the city from a new perspective.
