The València City Council, through the Department of Climate Improvement and Energy Efficiency and València Sostenible, joins the European Sustainable Energy Week once again with a special program of free activities aimed at all citizens. Between June 18th and 23rd, the city's residents will be able to participate in guided tours, family workshops, and an educational exhibition to learn firsthand how solar energy is contributing to transforming the city's energy model towards a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable one.
The Councilor for Climate Improvement and Energy Efficiency, Carlos Mundina, highlighted that “European Sustainable Energy Week is a unique opportunity for Valencians to learn firsthand how our city's energy model is changing. Valencia is leading the transition towards a cleaner, fairer, and more efficient model, and activities like these are the best proof that this change is already a tangible reality in our neighborhoods and buildings”.
The program, designed by the Office of Energy of València Sostenible, combines education, practical learning, and citizen participation through three complementary activities. The first will be a guided tour of the photovoltaic installation and energy storage system at Mercavalencia, taking place on June 18th. Participants will be able to learn about one of the city's most advanced self-consumption installations, equipped with a 3.7 MWp solar photovoltaic plant and an innovative lithium battery system that maximizes the use of generated renewable energy.
From June 19th to July 3rd, the Office of Energy of Ayora will host the exhibition “València connects to the sun,” a display showcasing real experiences of collective self-consumption promoted by neighbors and energy communities in the city. The exhibition highlights projects that are already contributing to reducing household energy costs, fostering citizen participation, and moving towards a more resilient and sustainable city.
Finally, on June 23rd, the family workshop “We teach you how a photovoltaic panel works” will be held, a practical activity aimed at families with children aged nine and over. During the workshop, participants will assemble a small photovoltaic kit and directly observe how solar energy can be transformed into useful electricity for various everyday applications.
As Carlos Mundina pointed out, “we want the energy transition to reach all homes in Valencia, and for that, it is essential that citizens understand what solar energy is, how it works, and what its real benefits are. These completely free activities are our way of telling every Valencian that sustainable energy is not just the future, but the present”.
All activities are free, although pre-registration is required. Interested individuals can formalize their participation through the València Sostenible website, where they will find all information regarding schedules, locations, and attendance requirements.
The Office of Energy is a free public service of the València City Council, managed by València Sostenible, offering personalized advice, workshops, and activities to support citizens in the energy transition. It has established itself as the municipal reference point for resolving doubts related to energy saving, renewable energies, and self-consumption.
