The Catholic University of Valencia (UCV) will host the XI International Congress of Regional History on April 22 and 23, an event that will analyze the influence of images throughout history and their transformation in the digital age.

Organized by the University Circle of Regional History (CUHC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Department of Education, Culture and Universities, the congress will take place at the Santa Úrsula campus, located at Guillem de Castro Street, 94.
Under the theme “The Image in History: Solidity, Hegemony, and Questions,” the event proposes an interdisciplinary approach that goes beyond traditional fields of art and media. It will address how digitalization and artificial intelligence are redefining the production, circulation, and reception of images, as well as their impact on cultural diversity and human originality.

The anthropology of the image places us before a phenomenon capable of mediating between the visible and the invisible, the present and the absent.

The program includes the inaugural conference by Pablo Salazar, deputy director of the newspaper Las Provincias, titled “The Transformation of the Image Over Time. Regarding 30 Urban Milestones of Valencia,” scheduled for April 22 at 10:00 AM. Round tables will also be held, such as “The Role of Cinema in Cultural Construction and its References,” featuring Sara Mansanet, director of the Mostra de Cinema del Mediterrani, and filmmaker Rafael Maluenda, moderated by José Luis Moreno, former director of the Filmoteca Valenciana.
In the afternoon, attendees can enjoy guided tours of the Diocesan Museum of Valencia Cathedral, led by Rev. José Verdeguer, and the Church of Santos Juanes, led by Dr. Pilar Roig from the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
The congress will conclude on Thursday, April 23, at 1:15 PM, with the presentation of the CUHC awards. Among this edition's honorees are Fernando Giner (Valencia CF Footballers Association), Maurizio Veneta (Helados Veneta), Santiago Sanchis (president of the Santa Bárbara de Casinos Cooperative), and Trini Montañana (mayor of Meliana). The recognitions will be presented by Francisco Cardells, director of the CUHC.
This marks the eleventh international congress organized by the CUHC since its establishment in 2007, consolidating a trajectory dedicated to the study of regional history from various perspectives.
