Thousands of people have participated in the May Day demonstration in Valencia, called by the unions CCOO PV and UGT PV, to demand decent wages, access to housing, and the defense of democracy.

The march, which started from Plaza de San Agustín, was attended by several political representatives and took place in a festive atmosphere, despite the rain that fell during the route. The unions stated that there are “plenty of reasons to fill the streets” and defend workers' rights.

"We must continue to take to the streets to demand and defend the rights we have won because we are witnessing an advance of the far-right, not only internationally, but also here, in our country."

During the demonstration, various slogans were heard in defense of the working class and against policies considered detrimental to workers. References were also made to the management of the DANA on October 29, 2024, and accountability was demanded.
The protest focused on four key points: dignified employment and fair wages, reduced working hours, and the extension of equality in all workplaces; the constitutional right to housing, as many families spend more than 40% of their income on this concept; the fight against attacks on democracy, and the defense of a strong welfare state with quality public services.

"We want quality public services, with resources. It cannot be that the Generalitat is lowering taxes for the rich and says it cannot pay more to public education teachers, and I extend this to the rest of public services: health, social services, firefighters, or police."

The May Day marches were replicated in other cities of the Valencian Community such as Alcoi, Alicante, Elche, and Castelló de la Plana, with different union calls.
