“"When I listened to her, this title lit up inside me: 'The Last Night with My Brother', and I think I said it to her at the same time we were talking, without thinking too much. She liked the idea of me making a play with this title and continued to tell me details about the terrible loss and the sensations that had assailed her, including the strangest ones: those related to the comical."

The Teatre Principal de València hosts the play The Last Night with My Brother, by Alfredo Sanzol, on April 25 and 26, closing the Poetics of Grief cycle of the Institut Valencià de Cultura.
This production, a collaboration between the Centro Dramático Nacional and the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, tells the story of Nagore, a woman diagnosed with cancer, and her brother Alberto, who must learn to accept loss.
The play explores the experiences of three pairs of siblings facing brotherhood and loss, with Nagore as the central axis of the plot. The text originated from a conversation between the author and a friend, who recounted how her last night with her brother before his death completely changed her perception of life and death.
Alfredo Sanzol is known for his use of humor, his search for a unique formal style to address biographical issues, and his commitment to researching new dramatic structures. He has been awarded the National Prize for Dramatic Literature for La respiración (2016) and the XII Valle-Inclán Theater Prize for La ternura (2017), among other accolades.
Tickets for the performances can be purchased at the box offices of the Principal and Rialto theaters, as well as through the IVC's online ticket office.
