Galician center Raquel Carrera, a key player for Valencia Basket, has formalized a preseason contract with the New York Liberty franchise of the WNBA, opening the door for her participation in the American league.

This agreement, being a preseason contract, does not guarantee her permanence, as the franchise could terminate it before the start of the campaign. However, Carrera, who is under contract with Valencia Basket until 2027, has informed the club of her intention to compete for the first time in the United States league, a clause included in her contract.
The WNBA preseason is scheduled to begin on April 19, with the regular competition starting on May 8. Despite these dates, it is expected that Raquel Carrera will finish the season with Valencia Basket and rejoin the 'taronja' team once her participation in the American league concludes, should she ultimately play for the Liberty.

Carrera has a contract with Valencia Basket until 2027 after the extension that both parties agreed to a year ago and, according to the EFE agency, she informed the club days ago of her intention to play in the American league for the first time, a clause that is admitted and regulated in her contract.

The Galician player was selected in the 2021 WNBA draft by Atlanta Dream in the 15th position, the highest ever achieved by a Spanish player at that time. A year later, her rights were transferred to the New York franchise. Additionally, the WNBA website recently reported that María Conde has signed a similar contract with Toronto Tempo, and other players such as Awa Fam, Iyana Martín, and Marta Suárez are candidates for the upcoming draft.
