Many attendees and artists have expressed their dissatisfaction with the concert volumes during the first day of the Festival de les Arts in Valencia. Criticisms were evident both within the venue and on social media, with shouts of "we can't hear" from the audience and discomfort shown by some performers.
The situation even led to unusual scenes, such as artists coming down from the stage to try and connect better with the audience and compensate for sound limitations. Some spectators pointed out that the problem was foreseeable, lamenting that a solution had not been found in the two months prior to the event.
The mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, pointed to the promoter and the City of Arts and Sciences as responsible for keeping the festival at its current location despite previous warnings. "I have been warning since March 25th that we have a ruling, unfortunately, that we must comply with," she stated.
The main limitation was that concert volumes could not exceed 85 decibels, a restriction that has conditioned the festival's development. The City Council has warned that non-compliance with this ruling could lead to financial penalties.
With the controversy still ongoing, the venue was preparing this Saturday for the second and final day of the festival, with many attendees hoping the experience will better meet expectations and the price paid for tickets.
