Valencian cartoonist Paco Roca returns to bookstores on May 28 with El viaje (The Journey), a graphic novel that explores the memory of life as a couple and the end of love through an intimate and personal story.

Published by Astiberri, the work continues the line of autobiographical and emotional inquiry that the author has developed in titles such as La casa (The House), Regreso al Edén (Return to Eden), or El abismo del olvido (The Abyss of Oblivion). This new installment follows Fran, a man stranded in a small town in Argentine Patagonia after his return flight is canceled.
After almost twenty years of living together, his relationship has irreversibly broken, and this isolation becomes the starting point to reconstruct the past and try to understand the present. In this process, the protagonist reflects on shared identity, coexistence, and the transformations of love over time.
Roca constructs this narrative from his own experiences and those of close acquaintances, in a work that, according to the dossier, offers “an intense and delicate portrait of the memory of a couple.” Patagonia, initially conceived as a circumstantial setting, ended up playing a central role after the author's research trip, which transformed the landscape into “another main character” of the narrative, as stated in the press kit provided by the publisher.
El viaje thus adds to the trajectory of one of the most recognized authors in Spanish comics, whose works have been translated into numerous languages and awarded prizes such as the National Comic Award or the Eisner Award. Furthermore, the graphic novel already has a film adaptation project in development by Estela Films and Pólvora Films, still in its early stages.
