The new Valencian musical group, Mimosas, presents itself as a sonic paradox. Their name evokes softness, but inside hides a punk and rebellious current, a duality that reflects life's complexity. This band, formed by Lía Guardiola, Nora Sebastián, Emma Gutiérrez, and Lucía Momkute, officially debuts this Sunday, May 17th, sharing the stage with the band Tronkas at Loco Club.
Their first single, Fumo, released on May 15th, has been the only clue for new fans about their style. The birth of Mimosas stems from Momkute's desire to continue her musical project in Valencia after her previous band, Tronkas, moved to Madrid. A chance encounter with Guardiola, initially via Tinder, sparked the creative fuse. "I really wanted to create more music and continue with the band project," Momkute explains, "once Lía and I got together, Nora and Emma joined, and that's how the band was born".
Mimosas navigates between punk, indie, and rock, seeking its own sound to champion "the Valencian female scene". Sebastián highlights the need to "generate a collective through punk" and identify with queer individuals, "we want to shake up the female scene from within".
They define themselves as a "cute but aggressive" band, showcasing their identity "without filters" on stage. "We are ourselves without filters and we play with our queer side," states Momkute, "our concerts will be very eye-catching and fun, although it's a bit challenging to play, sing, and perform simultaneously".
With their debut single Fumo, Mimosas reveals "themselves a bit out there". They promise a live performance full of punk, "a very authentic touch", female empowerment, and "underwear thrown on the floor". Additionally, they will offer merchandise created by themselves, with a distinct style marked by pink, red, and "an image we've worked on", according to Gutiérrez. "We work from the community and for the community," they conclude with a punk attitude.
