Thousands of public education teachers in the Valencia region gathered today in provincial capitals to begin an indefinite strike, with varying participation figures reported by unions and the Ministry.

Unions have estimated participation at 88%, with projections to reach 90-95% throughout the day. This figure contrasts with that provided by the Ministry of Education, which at 10:00 AM placed the percentage of teachers who joined the strike at 24%.

The main demands include a salary increase, a reduction in student-teacher ratios, and improvements in educational infrastructure.
A spokesperson for STEPV has called on the Ministry of Education to «put a proposal on the table for all the issues» demanded, insisting on the need for «real and effective negotiation». Likewise, UGT has emphasized the importance of increasing teaching staff and improving working conditions.
The president of Education for CSIF has considered the strike to be a «great success» and has conveyed a message of reassurance for second-year Baccalaureate students, ensuring that minimum services will guarantee they can finish the course prepared. He also highlighted the «support» of parents and students for the teachers' demands.
The Minister of Education has stated that her department has various strategies to address the strike, depending on its duration, and has reiterated the willingness to reach agreements, assuring that «dialogue channels are open». The next negotiation table is scheduled for January 9.
