To use the service, the user must go to Settings → Your information → Download your information on Instagram, select the Followers and Following category and choose the JSON format. Once Instagram has generated the file, you just need to upload the followers.json and following.json files to NomeSigueApp and the list of users who don't follow back appears instantly.
The main difference compared to the dozens of third-party applications circulating for Instagram is that no part of the analysis requires the user's password. This detail is what avoids the main risk of these tools: that Instagram detects irregular access and suspends the account. NomeSigueApp uses the official export mechanism that Meta offers to its users in compliance with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation.
The tool is available in 24 languages — including Catalan, Spanish, English, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, and Mandarin — and works from any browser, without the need to install any application on the phone. This approach has allowed it to reach users in more than a hundred countries and keep the service completely free, supported by non-intrusive advertising.
The emergence of tools like NomeSigueApp responds to a growing demand from Instagram users who want to understand their network of relationships on the platform without having to pay for premium services or hand over credentials to third parties. With half a million accumulated users, the project illustrates how useful and private services can be built on the data APIs that large platforms offer by legal obligation.
