The arrest occurred during a joint operation with the Tax Agency. Airport agents randomly identified, as part of a control of international connecting flights, a passenger from Mexico, transiting through Barajas Airport (Madrid), who had a suitcase checked in his name.
When asked about the reason for his trip and if he had anything to declare at Customs, the man stated that he was traveling for tourism and had nothing to declare. Following standard customs procedure, his luggage was scanned with an X-ray machine, which showed organic matter plates in the bottom of the suitcase that could be compatible with narcotic substances.
The agents opened the suitcase and, in addition to clothes and personal effects, found brick-shaped, plastic-wrapped packages hidden in a false bottom. These packages contained a pressed white powder that tested positive for cocaine and weighed 4 kilograms.
The traveler was arrested for a crime against public health, and the judge ordered his imprisonment. The investigation was carried out by agents from the UDAIFF and the Fiscal and Borders Section of the Civil Guard at Valencia Airport, and by officials from the Tax Agency in Valencia. The proceedings were handed over to the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of Quart de Poblet Plaza number 3.
